Unemployed person and debts

A unemployed person who lost their job due to a redudancy and cannot back the bank debts and the bank has raised court case , what can be done in this case , there is no other means of income to pay debts because the person has no other source of income , on the other hand the person has no money to have a lawyer and the situation can go to extreme , how can a person be helped in this case , the person family members such as mother and father are also unemployed so they cannot pay the debts on behalf of the person
